Birthday of Subhash Chandra Bose
Bose was born in Cuttack, Odisha, in 1897. He was a brilliant student and passed the Indian Civil Service (ICS) exam, but resigned from his position in the British Indian government to pursue the goal of Indian independence. He then joined the Indian National Congress and worked under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.(Netaji Birthday 2023)
Bose's views on the Indian independence movement diverged from those of Gandhi and Nehru, who advocated for nonviolence and peaceful protests. Bose believed in the use of force to achieve independence and formed the Indian National Army (INA) to fight against the British.
In 1941, Bose left India and sought the support of the Axis powers, including Germany and Japan, for the Indian independence movement. He established the Free India Center in Berlin and formed the Indian Legion, made up of Indian prisoners of war in the German army.
In 1943, Bose traveled to Japan and formed the Indian National Army (INA) with Japanese support. The INA fought alongside Japanese forces in Burma and India, but was ultimately defeated by the British in 1945.
